When you think of your favorite rock band several characteristics may come to mind: the group’s energy on stage, their heartfelt lyrics, or their ability to exude the word “cool.” Newark, Delaware’s My Name is Drew encompasses the above aspects and many more.

It may seem peculiar at first to believe such talent could rise from such a small place. Delaware is not known for having much of a music scene or an artistic culture, but for zero sales tax and Joe Biden. Yet, I am not writing an article on shopping or the vice president. I am writing about Delaware’s biggest, little band.

Ethan Freeman (vocalist, guitar), Curtis Jackson (guitar), and Zach Schroeder (bass) began playing music together in their 10th grade guitar class.  After feeling out each others musical abilities, the three began working on songs together. When faced with the question of who they would select to play drums, Zach suggested Robert Graves, whom he had played with in a previous band. The four got together and found an immediate chemistry. After adding a few more band members and later dismissing them from the group, the core of My Name is Drew remained.

Writing, composing, recording and distributing your own records would be an impossibly daunting task for some, but for the boys of MNiD it is a natural process. The band does the majority of their recording in Freeman’s basement and Graves later mixes the tracks on his personal computer. However, these guys are not fearful of recording in new places. Just a few weeks ago, on a weekend trip to Ohio, Freeman laid down vocals for the band’s newest track “Box of Special Things” at Galaxy CDs to kill time before their performance there later that evening.

What baffles me most about this band is not their electrifying stage show or their high level of professionalism, but their genuine kindness to others. I have seen them interact with fans and they are impeccable gentlemen, never denying to chat or pose for a picture.  For a band that has played with acts such as Anarbor, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Foxy Shazam, Panic! At The Disco and Weezer they are exceedingly humble.

My Name is Drew is a band that has set high musical and moral standards for themselves. They take their music and performances seriously and appreciate all the success and support they have earned.

If you were not able to deduce that I am a fan of these boys based on what I have written I would like to plainly state now that I am and you will be as well once you check out some of their music. Keep these guys on your radar because they will be huge one day soon. Also, if you want to begin following My Name is Drew here is their facebook, twitter, tumblr, youtube and reverbnation pages.
