I recently had the chance to check out Guns N’ Roses when their tour made a stop in Camden, NJ this past weekend. I can say that I went into this show with my doubts about whether or not the performance would be up to speed, which I am sure was something on the minds of many of the nearly sold-out crowd at the Susquehanna Bank Center, and now I can say with complete certainty that the performance rocked and Guns N’ Roses did not disappoint.

I have been a huge fan of Guns N’s Roses for a number of years and I have to say that Axl Rose was in top form, he looked and sounded fantastic. I keep seeing a ton of critiques about the state of his vocal prowess and I can’t for the life of me figure out what these individuals are expecting. The man is in his late 40′s, not some kid just starting out, personally I think it is incredible that he has been able to make it work this long. Axl’s vocal range may not be what it used to, but I can definitely tell you that it is damn close. Another complaint that keeps popping up is that Guns N’ Roses did not take the stage till after 11pm, to which I have to say ‘Did you forget that you are at at rock concert?’ These things are supposed to start late at night and believe me the band more than made up for the late stage time by playing their hearts out for nearly three hours. That in itself should have been enough to please even the fussiest of fans.

The close to three hour set consisted of all the Guns N’ Roses hits including expected covers “Live And Let Die” and “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” with Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2″ and  AC/DC’s “A Whole Lotta Rosie” thrown in the mix as a treat. Guns N’ Roses did a fantastic job of captivating the audience from opening with “Chinese Democracy” and “Welcome To The Jungle” to the closing notes of “Paradise City”.  The music of Guns N’s Roses has a timeless appeal and band members DJ Ashba, Dizzy Reed, Bumblefoot, Richard Fortus,Tommy Stinson, and Frank Ferrer did an amazing job of rounding out the line-up and were given time to showcase their individual talents with several incredible solos, while Rose took a well-deserved break from the spotlight several times throughout the set. Axl and the rest of the band looked like they were having an incredible time and the camaraderie on stage was infectious, which is something that can truly make any show a memorable experience.

In my opinion Axl Rose was able to rise up and rock out  despite all the media and public scrutiny over the years. Axl and the rest of Guns N’ Roses were able to put on one hell of a good rock show that has certainly been a long time coming. I, for one, am certainly looking forward to more touring (fingers crossed) and hopefully some more new music in the not so distant future.
