Green Day showed up and played an impromptu performance at the kick-off party for The Rip Curl Pro Search sharing the stage with Ty Segall and Kut U Up. The kick-off party was also a fundraiser for the Surfrider Foundation, an organization supported by all of the surfers competing in the Rip Curl Pro Search.

The concert + Kick-off party aimed to raise some much needed funding and awareness for the SAVE SLOAT campaign, which is a plaguing concern for the local San Francisco surfing community.

Influential Connecticut-based modern pop duo Mates of State have a new music video for their incessantly catchy song “Sway”, from the recently released album Mountaintops. Pitchfork premiered the video today, and it’s available at the links below. The video, directed by XXXX, features a girl who falls down a rabbit hole to discover another world in perfect Lewis Carroll fashion. It showcases the band performing in a high school gym auditorium, outfitted with beautiful flowers, as if nature has exploded at the prom.

Disturbed, who are currently on an indefinite hiatus, are releasing “The Lost Children” November 8^th. The album contains 16 b-sides and rarities, as well as unreleased material. First single “Hell,” which appeared as a bonus track on the UK tour edition of the 2005 album Ten Thousand Fists, is at radio now.

One of our highlights from the recent CMJ Music Festival in NYC was indie rock band The Young Things. The band is creating a ton of buzz, especially around the NYC area, and to us seem poised to take on the rest of the world by storm. The Young Things are a band that has not forgotten the roots of rock and roll music and you can’t help but find yourself wanting to let loose and dance after listening to The Young Things killer tunes.

The influence of classic bands such as The Beatles and The Who can be clearly heard in The Young Things music, and it is truly ironic that the founding members of the band actually met while visiting London and the rest is history. The band’s EP “…is the killer” and new single “Talking Too Loud” are both currently available for free download on The Young Thing...

Lauren Alaina’s debut album, Wildflower, is the best-selling female country debut since 2006 and is the highest country album debut this week, debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and an impressive No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200. Skyrider has recently teamed up with Jim Wurster to create their new psych-folk outfit Hired Hand. This is the first album by the Skyrider team without the help of synthesizers or drum machines. Instead of relying on the beat-heavy programming they’ve used in the past, the band pooled their talents organically to make an album that showcases their collective love of classic rock, country and folk.Check out the band’s lead single, “Rising River.”
