Disturbed have just released their fifth studio album Asylum and will be doing a live webchat on their Ustream Channel with fans today (Tuesday) at 2:30 PM PST/5:30 PM EST. Two official music videos for tracks off of Asylum have been released. The video for lead single “Another Way To Die” and the video for album title track “Asylum.”

Every copy of Asylum comes with the 75+ minute “Decade of Disturbed” documentary which features live footage, exclusive interviews, and the story on Disturbed till now. A trailer for the documentary can be seen here.

Overall, the album was a good listen. Beginning with an instrumental track which weaves seamlessly into the title track, the conjoined opening establishes a great beat and could easily encourage a bit of head-banging.

But it’s not until track 3, “The Infection,” that the album really begins. With five songs in a row that can be listened to without wanting to skip any, this is what catapults the album and makes you want to turn the volume up a little (.a lot) louder.

The main downside to the album is the slowed-down ending tracks.  Some of the slower songs stand out from the others, “Serpentine” actually reigns as one of my favorites on the album, but others are weighed down with strange intros (“My Child”) and material that sounds like something we’ve heard before from Disturbed. But the intensity of the vocals should be noted and are crucial to what keeps the record solid and cohesive throughout.

Thus, in all, it is undeniably a tight record. Certain sections of the album outshine the others, but the sound remains consistent, the lyrics are potent, and there are ample inclusions of good old fashioned guitar solos.

It’s heavy, but enjoyable. The album seals their position as a nu metal mainstay if not pushing them forward along the path.

Must-Listen Tracks:
The Infection
Another Way To Die
The Animal
Serpentine
