I have had the chance to check out the album and have to say I am quite pleased with the latest offering from the Murderdolls, this album is a devilish good time from start to finish. The album truly illustrates just how much this group, made up of Joey Jordison and Wednesday 13, have matured since the release of their last album, Beyond The Valley of the Murderdolls, nearly eight years ago!

The songs that make up Women and Children Last are a little bit campy, a little bit guesome, and a whole lot of sleazy rock and roll! There is mixed opinion that this album lacks the same tongue-in-cheek fun that made up the band’s previous album, but I  disagree based on the fact that I don’t think I will hear another song quite like  “Pieces of Me” that will cause me to bounce around and clap my hands while the Murderdolls sing about basically a live action game of ‘operation’ with some decapitation thrown in for good measure…how much more tongue-in-cheek can you get?

This time around the band has defnitely gotten a bit more serious, the lyrics more thought-provoking, and music is heavier than ever, but I still wouldn’t say they have lost their sense of fun especially on tracks such as “Homicide Drive” and “Hello, Goodbye, Die”!  The more serious tracks on the album are “My Dark Place Alone” and “Nowhere” which deal with some slightly more introspective themes. Pehaps I am biased being a huge Motley Crue fan, but I want to say that personally my favorite track off Women and Children Last is “Blood Stained Valentine” featuring a guest appearance by the legendary Mick Mars on guitar.

Overall, Women and Children Last is a solid release from the Murderdolls and they are certainly letting the world know that they are back and definitely more brutal  and morbid than ever….but did we say there was a problem with that?
