Robin Gibb, a founding member of the Bee Gees, has died after a long and complicated battle with colon cancer, liver cancer, and intestinal problems.

Gibb, who was known as the lead singer of the Bee Gees during the early stages of their career, established himself as an accomplished singer and song writer through his solo career and his time with the group. Inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 1994, Gibb, along with the Bee Gees, is recognized as one of the most influential British pop artists of all time. Selling over 200 million albums, the Bee Gees cemented their status as one of the greatest pop groups to come out of the UK.
Gibb battled with cancer since 2010, starting with colon cancer which then spread to his liver. Around the same time, Gibb was also dealing with severe abdominal pain caused by blocked intestinal problems. Throughout 2011, Gibb had to cancel numerous concerts and appearances due to his health problems and in January of 2012, he released a statement saying that while his health had given him problems, he was working with his doctors and had experienced “spectacular” results.
On March 4, Gibb’s cancer was reported as being in remission, then, just a few weeks later on April 14, Gibb contracted pneumonia and went into a coma at a Chelsea Hospital. Gibb recovered from the coma on April 20, but just one month later on May 20, Gibb passed away in London.
With the passing of his twin brother Maurice Gibb in 2003 and his little brother Andy Gibb in 1988, Robin Gibb is survived by his older brother and co-founder of the Bee Gees, Barry Gibb.
